Shared society

For Adam Teva V’Din, environmental justice and ‘shared society’ are core beliefs. Our position has always been that without demonstration of basic environmental rights for all of Israel’s citizens – there can be no shared society.

Through our flagship program, Environment and Community, we offer pro bono legal, scientific and urban planning expertise to local activists and grassroots organizations to empower them to take actions to improve environmental conditions in their neighborhood.

WORKING WITH MINORITY COMMUNITIES

*The differences in quality of life and environmental conditions demonstrate ongoing inequalities in Israeli society. Although all Israelis are affected by the environment, some communities, particularly minority groups and vulnerable communities, suffer more than others from environmental injustices. They often lack the awareness, political clout and money to fight for environmental standards themselves.

*There is a stark contrast in the types of appeals we receive from Arab communities in comparison to general appeals. Whereas our general appeals relate mainly to quality of life issues such as building and planning, solid waste and recycling, beaches, within the Arab sector, appeals are directly connected to basic health needs.

The most successful model for lasting change is working hand in hand with core community partners who are determined to encourage friends and neighbors to join the struggle. They are our eyes and ears on the ground and we provide them with the tools and knowledge needed to identify and understand chronic environmental burdens and to work with the authorities to find lasting, concrete solutions.
