Litigation – The Minister of Environment responded to our lawsuit in the High Court of Justice on October 18 that, as the law requires, she will include 1.5 liter ‘family-size’ bottles in the Beverage Container Law. This is an important victory for which Adam Teva V’Din has worked for years, and a significant landmark in the elimination of plastic waste from the Israeli environment. In a 12-month transition giant crushing machines will replace the current 24,000 street collection cages. Consumers will benefit from a refund of 30 agorot (9 cents) on each bottle brought to the crushers. The transition period is expected to include steps by the powerful manufacturers’ bloc (Coca Cola and others) seeking to invalidate the scheme.
Make a monthly or one-time donation and together we will get plastic waste out of Israel’s streets, parks and beaches.
